Phases of Treatment
-
When you first contact me, I will get in touch with you by phone for a 20-minute initial consultation at no charge.
A pre-20-minute phone chat is beneficial for building rapport and allows me to understand your concerns. It also sets the stage for a more meaningful connection upon our first meeting.
Communicating with you beforehand allows me to gather valuable information about you, your expectations, goals, and preferences. I will adapt my approach based on your individual needs, ensuring you receive the support you need.
-
My sessions run for 90-minutes.
My preference is to meet in-person.
Your circadian rhythm (biological clock) processes information more efficiently within this time frame rather than the traditional 45 to 60 minutes time frame.
In person sessions are preferred. However virtual consultations can be booked if required.

Methods of Therapy

Trauma is difficult to recall yet impossible to forget.
How do you keep your heart open when you feel like you are in hell?
I offer solid support and strategies when you are experiencing significant challenges. Together we will find treatment approaches that can support you and reduce your symptoms.
We can never change the past, but we can change how we feel about it.

BLSP / EMDR is a process which involves lighting up and linking up the memory networks encoded in the brain.
The therapist will instruct you to move your eyes in various directions and patterns. You may also listen to music through headphones and tap your hands on your knees simultaneously, activating both hemispheres of your brain.
How does it work? Stored information is unlocked and processed, in a way similar to REM sleep. You are awake of course, and at times you may be requested to describe information that has emerged. This allows the information to be processed in a more conscious and focused way to reduce the influence that negative states have over us.

Sandplay and Symbol Therapy is a ‘hands on’ method of therapy which involves the placement of miniature figures and symbols in a tray of sand. By placing and arranging elements in the sand helps you explore your emotions, relationships, and subconscious thoughts, because it allows for a visual representation of these internal experiences. The benefit of this method is that it enables you to portray a visual scene of feelings and experiences that are often inaccessible and /or difficult to express verbally. It is a powerful therapeutic approach with nearly a century of history. It is evidence based and one of the most widely practiced therapy methods internationally. This approach can be applied to address a wide range of issues and adult mental health problems effectively. There is considerable evidence for the efficacy and effectiveness of this therapy. Developed by Dora Kalff, Sandplay is a Jungian-orientated form of psychotherapy that supports a natural human capacity for healing, growth and transformation.
“An emotional disturbance can be dealt with by giving it visual shape.” C.G.Jung

Parts work involves learning about the Parts of us that can feel compromised, stuck, or hurt, and also include exploring the resourceful Parts of us that are trying to figure out how to find equilibrium. It is effective when dealing with decision-making challenges and can unveil aspects of the unconscious mind that remain unexpressed. For example: The Part that wants to commit to a relationship and the Part that is unsure. We will investigate the internal conflicts creatively to reach a resolution.
This approach helps you uncover unspoken Parts of yourself in a way that is both serious and relatable.
-
These universal stories and patterns can provide us with symbolic content to help explore and understand our deepest fears, desires, and aspirations, ultimately leading to greater self-awareness, resilience, and inner transformation. During this process, unspoken emotions can be revealed and instigate positive transformations. This approach can help diminish the intensity of a psychological complex and positively impact the individual affected by it.
If we find ourselves in a ‘complex’, we might describe it as being taken over by an archetype (i.e. I don’t know what came over me!). Archetypes are universal patterns and themes that emerge across different cultures and time periods. Take for instance, the ‘persona’, it is a mask we wear to conform to societal expectations, and norms. Think of a TV show or video game character that has left a strong impression on you. What archetype do you think they fulfil? Some of these archetypes are referred to as, The Trickster, The Warrior, The Orphan, The Sage, The Lover, The Rebel and so on.

Tapping, also known as psychological acupuncture, is a physical type of therapy which focuses on your meridian system and can support psychological problems when used in the right context.
By tapping on the meridian points on your body, alongside deep breathing and affirmations, has the effect of activating right and left-brain activity simultaneously. This technique can help alleviate emotional stress on the mind body system and can regulate your parasympathetic nervous system (i.e., by taking you out of a state of fight/flight).
-
Meditation is not so much about letting go but about intense concentration. These ancient practices support you to become aware of your breath and trains it to slow down. Ultimately it involves tapping into a wise place within you during moments of overwhelm in order to cope with the ever-changing environment you find yourself in.
Visualizations are the most powerful tools we have available to effect personal change. Mind-body healing practices benefit us by increasing our ability to handle intrusive thoughts and emotions. I offer unique practices that are novel and fun and can create powerful change. Healing can occur from the most unlikely places. Learning something new offers new possibilities.

Dreams possess a unique intelligence if we tune into them. They are part of nature, not without purpose. They are too bizarre to discount as just nothing. Dreams can, and have, transformed people’s life. There are specific revelations for people having woken from a dream. Together we will creatively delve into the relationship of your dream world to your waking life.

Psychoeducation focuses on teaching individuals about mental health issues, coping strategies, and self-care techniques to improve their overall well-being. This entails gathering more information and insights that allow you to gain perspective and see things with new eyes. Collecting valuable wisdom and knowledge can support your decision-making abilities. It also encourages personal growth and empowers individuals to make informed choices that align with their values.
-
In our sessions I approach with reflective listening. I listen with willingness to deeply hear and understand your reasons for seeking therapy. I want to understand your experiences and how they are impacting you. Together we can explore what your desirable outcomes might look like and consider different approaches to meet your unique needs.
